On Election Day, I posted the U.S. Constitution in Akoma Ntoso. The response was so positive that I have a confession to make: it isn’t the only one. I have many other documents in Akoma Ntoso too, 33 so far. To see them all, click here: my archive.
From Hammurabi to modern times
The documents range from the Code of Hammurabi in 1754 BC all the way to modern times. I even have the full Justinian Code, in English.
They come from around the world and in many languages. Magna Carta is there in Latin, the Treaty of Waitangi in Māori, and the Constitution of Kenya in Swahili, alongside French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian and Chinese.
In some cases, I’ve even tried to recreate the original presentation, as I attempted with the U.S. Constitution. All of these documents are Akoma Ntoso XML, styled directly with CSS. They are not transformations to HTML.
Not always what the standard was meant for
Some of these aren’t even intended uses of Akoma Ntoso. The Wright Brothers’ contract from 1908 and the FAA Airworthiness Directive from 2020 that put the 737 MAX back in the air are modeled in Akoma Ntoso too.
A word of caution
These are not authoritative documents. They were converted by AI, under my supervision, and were not thoroughly checked. Please don’t rely on them. For anything that matters, go to the official source.
What do you think?
This was a fun project, and it demonstrates the power and adaptability of Akoma Ntoso to laws from around the world.
Let me know what you think. Are there any other laws I should add to my archive?
